An image of Stradetch’s visage, recovered from a Hiigaran intelligence file. Most Prime Entities develop “faces” resembling this - echoes of their origin, both haunting and symbolic.
A Beast Prime Entity is a singular, autonomous intelligence formed from the composite neural imprint of an infected ship’s crew, most often aboard capital-class vessels or larger constructs. Unlike post-human minds sustained individually within a Beast-infected ship, the Prime Entity acts as a unified ego: a whole made from many.
No two are alike. Each Prime reflects not only the nature of its origin - the psychology of its crew, the mission of its ship, even the moment of its infection, but also evolves over time, growing, changing, suffering. They are not mere, simple bio-mechanical intelligences. They are someone.
Perhaps the most consistently documented feature of a Prime Entity is its voice. Over comms or through neural interface broadcasts, its speech does not emerge as a single tone, but as a layered cascade of multiple voices, overlapping and echoing. These voices oscillate between masculine and feminine tones, disjointed yet unified, creating an effect often described as a chorus arguing with itself - or remembering something together.
To those who have encountered Prime Entities, this voice is unmistakable. Long before visual contact is made, the comms begin to fill with this strange, harmonic dissonance, a signal that you are no longer speaking to a person, but to a consensus of selves, bound within the flesh and memory of a single ship-body.
The first fully documented case of such an entity was Stradetch, born from the lower half of the Kuun-Lan, a Somtaaw mining vessel infected during the First Beast War. Stradetch remained a thrall to the Naggarok until its destruction, but the entity type it represented outlived it.
Since the Naggarok’s demise, Prime Entities have been observed acting with true agency. Some have chosen paths of war, others of isolation, others still of redemption. But all must confront the internal reality of their condition: they share their ship-body with a multitude of fully aware post-human minds, preserved in the Beast’s neural lattice. The Prime must command these - or coexist with them.
How Prime Entities form remains an open question. Theories abound: perhaps specific viral strains are required, or perhaps the scale of biomass and neural material onboard matters. Others believe certain ship types, such as carriers, cruisers, dreadnoughts - may be required to support the formation of a Prime. Some even whisper that it is not the virus that chooses, but the dying will of a crew refusing to be silenced.
Whatever the cause, the result is the same: beings who were once myths — now fractured, lucid, and very real.
