Story Overview
Homeworld: Black Static is a text-based web novel set within the alternate Homeworld: Redemption universe, a divergent timeline branching from the events of Homeworld: Cataclysm.
In this alternate continuity, the galaxy never fully recovered from the trauma of the First Beast War. Civilization continues, fractured and sick, amidst long-forgotten ruins and abandoned fleets adrift in dead space. After the Naggarok's demise, everything it touched or created was left free, unbound from its will, and forced to confront the reality of survival. At the heart of this collapsing periphery lies the Primosk Exclusion Zone, a haunted region of corrupted space and reality-bending anomalies.
Following the Second Beast War, the galaxy was changed. An entity created by the Beast virus rose not to destroy, but to protect, leading a desperate resistance and ultimately helping to destroy a terrible force. For the first time in history, entities once seen as abominations became something else: free. Some were broken, others aimless, but many began to grasp at something absurd and impossible: humanity, cosmic terrors seeking salvation or meaning.
Black Static is an intimate, grounded story that takes place in the long, bitter aftermath of that war. It follows Marie Soban and her comrades. Marie is a survivor, ex-soldier, and ghost in every sense, a woman alienated by civilization itself. Her story is not one of empire or grand fleets, but of radical defiance and deep personal loyalty. When something in the Zone goes terribly wrong, she undertakes a journey to save a being she considers family, no matter what stands in her way. It’s a story about personal war, ghosts, memory, and impossible love.
